Job Summary:
The Assistant Director for OSU System Communications will oversee all strategic communications initiatives for OSU Polytech, OSU system institutes including the Oklahoma Aerospace Institute for Research and Education and the Human Performance and Nutrition Research Institute. The role will help coordinate external OSU system communications with a specific emphasis on OSU Polytech initiatives and events.
- Produce communication plans, as well as written content for news stories, releases and feature stories about OSU Polytech initiatives and events, as well as the Human Performance and Nutrition Research Institute and the Oklahoma Aerospace Institute for Research and Education.
- Coordinate external OSU System communication around OSU Polytech initiatives to ensure alignment and maximum amplification.
- Create internal communications for OSU faculty and staff supporting OSU Polytech and the Institutes.
- Lead innovative niche media pitching strategies for national awareness of OSU Polytech and the Institutes.
- Work with OSU Foundation to write newsletters, support cases and other collateral to support these initiatives.
- In partnership with the associate director for multimedia, coordinate photo and video shoots that will amplify key stories and messages for OSU Polytech and the Institutes.
- In partnership with the assistant director of digital communications, create digital strategies to amplify messages of OSU Polytech and the Institutes.
Reporting to the Chief Communication Officer, the role will oversee and guide content creation processes to enhance brand awareness among prospective students and their families, current students, employees, alumni, donors and other internal and external audiences. Provides consistent contributions to media relations efforts via writing, media monitoring, research and outreach. Manages and provides direction for assignments for communications specialist(s) and Brand Management editorial team interns.
Will utilize skills in communication strategies, writing and editing, including press releases and news articles in AP style, newsletters, feature stories, web and social content and presentations. These efforts align with OSU's strategic marketing and communications plan which prioritizes recruitment, retention and reputation management.
The individual should demonstrate self-direction, creativity and strategic thinking in finding new opportunities to showcase Oklahoma State University.

Education & Experience Position Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, public relations, marketing, English or a related field.
Three years of related work experience.
Must be able to analyze complex ideas, internal and external stakeholder input, and multiple sources of information to develop communications strategies and effective messaging and content. Must demonstrate skills in writing and editing press releases and news articles in AP style, feature stories, news writing, web content, digital content, presentations, internal messaging and strategic communications.
Ability to work cross-functionally with supervisors, unit staff and campus partners to ensure a collaborative environment, coordinated efforts and maximized outcomes. Must learn quickly and demonstrate flexibility in the work environment. Exhibit strong attention to detail as well as the ability to effectively manage multiple assignments with different priorities and tight deadlines. Demonstrate creativity, integrity and passion for growing the brand of Oklahoma State University.
Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree journalism, communications, public relations, marketing, English or a related field.
Seven years of related work experience.
