Description

Summary of Responsibilities:

The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant provides routine care and management of the patient with acute and chronic complaints, in collaboration with the supervising physician and through implementationof standardized procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide general medical services and treatment to patients in the clinic under direction of physician.
• Perform physical examinations and preventive health measures within prescribed guidelines and instructions of physician.
• Make initial and continuing assessment of patient's health status followed by appropriate intervention independently or by collaboration with other physician specialists.
• Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient's clinical problems and health care needs.
• Record physical findings, and formulates plan and prognosis based on patient's condition.
• Discuss case with physician and other health professionals to prepare comprehensive patient care plan.
• Submit health care plan and goals of individual patients for periodic review and evaluation by physician.
• Prescribe or recommend medication or other forms of treatment such as physical therapy, inhalation therapy, or related therapeutic procedures.
• Establish and maintains client's electronic medical records and other necessary records.
• Collaborate with the Contract Health Services coordinator to provide referral services to specialty clinics/services
• Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

Education and Experience:

• Graduation with a master's degree from an accredited advanced nurse practitioner program of Physician Assistant program.
• Board Certified Family Practice Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
• Minimum of three years in practice preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions/ and preventive health-care measures.
• The ability to communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand.
• Identify complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
• Excellent patient care skills.
• Knowledge of professional care theories/ principles/ practices/ disease process and procedures.
• Knowledge of a variety of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment/ the desired effects/ side effects/ and complications of their use as well as the accurate administration of the pharmacologic agent including dosage calculations as required.
• Knowledge of the administrative requirements for proper documentation of patient's condition including disease progress/ acknowledgement of teaching/ and follow up care.
• Knowledge of computer operations and proficiency in the use of basic word processing/ data entry and automated medical records.

• Must submit to and pass applicable drug test.
• Must pass background investigations for suitability of character identified in accordance with the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act.
• Annual TB skin test/ proof of previous positive PPD results or negative chest X-ray.
• Hepatitis A & B, Tdap, MMR and Varicella vaccinations, proof of previous vaccinations or proof of positive titer.
